John E. Grimmer
John Grimmer received his B.A. from Princeton University, summa cum laude, in 1971 and his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1975. Before founding John Grimmer & Associates in 2003, John worked with firms such as Lord Day & Lord, Holtzman Wise & Shepard, Piper & Marbury (now DLA Piper) and Kirlin, Campbell & Keating, representing a variety of clients in civil matters, including: JP Morgan, Sealand, Regency Cruises, several bidders during the bankruptcy of Golden Ocean, and others in shipping workouts, ship mortgage foreclosures and bankruptcy matters worldwide; general shipping litigation and arbitration Apex Oil Company (arbitration and litigation matters); American Bureau of Shipping (including lead maritime counsel in the PRESTIGE litigation, surveyor malpractice claims and personal injury matters); Shell Oil Company (arbitrations); Gulf Oil Company; Cunard Lines (personal injury and contract matters); various Lloyd’s underwriters in coverage claims and monitoring of other counsel; various developers in developing and constructing power plants in India, Pakistan, Jamaica, and throughout the U.S.; and the American Stock Exchange in various securities matters. He also represented native American villages in the EXXON VALDEZ litigation and served as general counsel to a power development company.
John is admitted to practice in New York, Maine and numerous federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court.
Bradley F. Gandrup, Jr.
Brad Gandrup has been in the practice of law since 1983, working with such firms as Phelps Dunbar in New Orleans, and Nourse & Bowles and Holtzmann, Wise & Shepard in New York. He has represented a wide variety of shipping interests in maritime litigation and arbitration, as well as oil, technology and insurance companies in complex commercial, environmental and insurance litigation. Brad co-wrote the successful petition for a writ of certiorari and the briefs on the merits in Exxon Corp. v. Central Gulf Lines, Inc., 500 U.S. 603 (1991), and later (with Exxon’s permission), acted for the native American regional corporation and several villages in the EXXON VALDEZ litigation. He has substantial experience in the defense of malpractice claims against marine classification societies, having represented both Bureau Veritas and the American Bureau of Shipping in major cases. Along with John Grimmer and co-counsel from Hughes, Hubbard & Reed, Brad was one of the draftsmen of the American Bureau of Shipping’s motion for summary judgment based on the Civil Liability Convention in the PRESTIGE litigation, which the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York granted on January 2, 2008, dismissing the Kingdom of Spain’s $1 billion suit against ABS.
Brad is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, New York, Louisiana and numerous federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court.
Daniel F. Paige
Dan Paige has been in practice since 1995, principally in the field of international and maritime litigation. He has extensive experience in personal injury, wrongful death and insurance litigation, as well as complex commercial litigation, charter party arbitration and class actions. He also has a strong background in classification society litigation (including representing American Bureau of Shipping in the PRESTIGE litigation), civil RICO litigation, ship and project finance, leasing, internet privacy issues and criminal law. Dan is a member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States, the Connecticut Maritime Association and the American Bar Association. Dan is currently general counsel to an international members services company, has been counsel to an energy development corporation, and was associated with the law firm of Kirlin, Campbell & Keating. Dan is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Maryland and numerous federal jurisdictions.
Robert A. Suarez
Bob Suarez is a former prosecutor, practicing since 1993. He began his work in maritime litigation with Kirlin, Campbell & Keating, practicing in the areas of commercial litigation, wrongful death and personal injury. He has represented classification societies, ship owners and operators, seafarers, and terminal operators in litigation, arbitration and appeals. Bob is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey, as well as several federal jurisdictions.
Marina A. Gaglias
Marina is an associate at JG&A. A graduate of Massachusetts Maritime Academy, she came to the firm with a wealth of practical experience, including having served in the U.S. Coast Guard reserves in the Marine Safety Office, working for a tanker operator, and as a field surveyor for American Bureau of Shipping. Marina is admitted to practice in Massachusetts. |
